The PVC activator tablets, composed of film grade 99.9% pure polyvinyl chloride, are essential in the Malcomizing Process of stainless steel. These tablets facilitate the gas nitriding process methods, which activate the surfaces of stainless steel. Through the formation of HCN gas, a nitrided layer, carburized layer, or carbonitrided layer is formed on the surface of steel, providing a highly durable and wear-resistant 'hard case' for steel components.
The precise control of the chemical potential of nitrogen in the nitriding atmosphere can be achieved by regulating the gas flow rate of nitrogen and oxygen. While offering an all-around nitriding effect, this method can sometimes prove disadvantageous when compared with plasma nitriding. However, it does allow for large batch sizes, with the limiting factor being the size of the furnace and gas flow.
Modern computer-controlled atmospheres enable close monitoring and control of the nitriding results. In addition, this method requires relatively low equipment costs, especially in comparison with plasma.
